MEDC Opens New Power Stations
Muscat Electricity Distribution Company (MEDC) - a member of Nama Group, has invested more than OMR 5 million to construct, enlarge and extend new power lines.
The total capacity of these stations was 108 MVA. It was launched in preparation for the 2019 summer in Muscat Governorate.
The plan included the establishment of four main projects:
• Establishment of Bowsher (2) power station with capacity of 3x20 MVA
• Extension of two power stations in Al-Mambila Al-Shabiyah and Southern Al-Khuwair from 2x20 MVA to 3x20 MVA.
• The company has also changed the transformers of Qorum Power Station (2) from 2x16 MVA to 2x20 MVA.
These projects and investments aim at covering the increasing demand for electric power in Muscat Governorate, especially during summer, where the load on the power network is high. These stations have been examined and tested by the company engineers, to ensure their operational readiness and efficiency.
These stations are distributed across the various Wilayats of Muscat Governorate. They are focused on the areas witnessing significant growth in terms of urban expansion to cover the excessive demand for electricity.
