MEDC Organizes HSE Open Day
Muscat Electricity Distribution Company (MEDC), Member of Nama Group, organized an open day on Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) for its employees, with wide participation from contractors, Ministry of Health, and Royal Oman Police. The event took place under the auspices of H.E, Mr. Mohammad Bin Abdullah Al Mahrouqi, the Chairman of Public Authority for Electricity and Water. The aim of the event was to enhance Health, Safety and Environment Culture, marking the achievements and identify challenges in 2018.
In the past few years, the Company commenced execution group of initiatives to enhance the security and safety culture in its various activities and operations, through monitoring compliance of regulations and laws organizing works at all fields. Dr. Jumaa Bin Said Al Abdinai, Senior Director of Health, Safety and Environment, confirmed that 2018 was an exceptional year, as the Company recorded brilliant performance for the fifth consecutive year. MEDC did not report a single death case since 2014, and recorded about two millions and three hundred safe working hours by the end of 2018.
He further added that the annual plan for the last year included audit programs on all the activities of the company in the field of operation, maintenance, projects, emergencies, connection activities and cutting power, in addition to carrying-out awareness campaigns for employees, contractors and the public, such as campaigns on preventive driving, electrical safety and work on the highlands.
It’s worth mentioning that the Company applies HSE standards according to the best international ISO practices, that were recently renewed in the field of integrated systems management.
