Muscat Electricity Distribution Company receives an increasing demand to connect solar energy systems in Muscat Governance.
Muscat Electricity Distribution Company - one of the Nama Group companies - connected solar energy systems to its electrical network for seven customers in Muscat who applied for this service, they are four residentials and three commercials with a capacity of 1 megawatt in different locations. Over the next two years, the installed power is expected to reach more than 10 megawatts.
Preliminary studies conducted on one of the customers indicate that more than 30% of the total monthly invoice in these sites was provided.
As the company is specialized in supplying and connecting electricity to the various facilities in Muscat, MEDC has recently received more than 20 applications to connect solar systems.
Through the results of the implementation of solar systems, the total cost per kilowatt range from 300 riyals to 500 riyals according to the contractor’s questionnaire, and it is hoped that this cost will decrease gradually in the coming years with the availability of more manufacturers and increase the efficiency of solar panels.
In this regard, the documents and regulations have been set to clarify the process of connecting solar panels to the different establishments in the Sultanate approved by the Electricity Regulatory Authority were prepared in the third quarter of 2017.
