Muscat Electricity Distribution Company has attracted 45,840 thousand subscribers at the end of March to use the pre-paid electricity meter since its inception in 2014. This meter can be recharged with the convenient amount of money  for the subscriber use. 
The number of commercial subscribers in the prepaid service has reached more than 19 thousand subscribers and 27,000 residential subscribers.
Muscat Electricity Distribution Company is the first company in the Sultanate to provide electricity service through prepayment. This service enables the subscriber to control his monthly energy consumption without having to wait for monthly bills.
The company has provided recharge receipts, throughout Muscat in shops, fast shopping centers and refueling stations. This service also ensures that there is no power outage at the time of low balance , at certain  times such as public holidays, weekends or after 3 pm Until 10 am the next day, to avoid common difficulties that may face when trying to recharge the balance in these periods of time.
The service excludes subscribers in extreme emergencies where they can obtain an emergency balance by calling the company's call center at 80070008. This balance is automatically deducted after the meter is recharged.
  This system is very effective especially for landlords, where it will solve the problems caused by the accumulation of non-paid invoices to the tenants.
It is worth noting that the company is currently studying and experimenting other technologies that help facilitate the service, and save effort and time for both the subscriber and the company.
